Wow, that is a mouthful. This ladder league will be scheduled on Monday evenings, from 6:30-8:30pm.  It will run for 8 weeks, starting on Monday, October 10th. All matches will be at the Blackburn Pavilion in Mount Vernon. This league is open to female and male SVP club members with self-ratings of 3.5 or higher.  Members may only sign-up for one Round Robin Ladder League per season. The maximum number of players is 20 while the minimum is 8 and we have to end up with a number divisible by 4. If we receive more than 20 sign-ups, random numbers will be assigned to each player with the lowest 20 numbers being selected.  Courts will be dedicated to the league, although after 8pm we no longer have priority but I don’t see that as a problem. Sign-up will be via email to RecPlay.svpball@gmail.com and remember to include the name of the league you are signing up for, your name, and your self-rating. Sign-up emails must be received by 7pm on October 9th.

The format is individual round robin ladder. The initial ladder order will be randomized.  If we have 16 people sign-up, then the first week ladder positions 1 thru 8 (Group A) will play a round robin consisting of one game to 15 (win by 1) each round.  Similarly, ladder positions 9 thru 16 (Group B) will also play a round robin. Scores will be recorded on the paper forms that will be in the SVP storage box on the east side of the courts and then placed back in the box when play is completed. Weekly score will be based on number of games won with the tie-breaker being number of points won in losing games. Each group (A & B) will be ranked by the methodology previously listed, and the bottom two from Group A moving down into B, the top two from Group B moving up into Group A, and a playoff will occur between Group A positions 5 & 6 against Group B positions 11 & 12. This playoff will be one game to 15 win by 2, with the winners moving into Group A in the following week and the losers being in Group B.

If we end up with 20 players total, then the initial ladder positions 17 thru 20 (Group C) will play a 4 person round robin consisting of best 2 out of 3 games to 11 (win by 1).  Scores will be tallied with the two players winning the most games moving up to Group B the following week, and the two lowest scores in Group B moving down into Group C.

Since this is a scheduled league, it is very important that you are able to play each Monday night for the duration of the league.  If you don’t show up and the others in your group can’t play, you owe them pizza and beer for life. We will allow subs with self-ratings at 3.5 and above, but subs will take a 2 game deduction on their overall game score and can never move a player up into a higher group. Subs can move a player down, however.
