3.0-3.5 Self Scheduled Partnered Doubles League
This league is open to both female and male SVP members with self-ratings of 3.0 to 3.5. The league is for doubles partners (you play with the same person as your partner every week). The duration of the league will depend upon how many doubles teams sign-up, but it will more than likely run about 8-10 weeks. The League Coordinator will establish a weekly schedule determining which teams play each other each week. Each team should complete one match per week, with a one week grace period if you have scheduling problems for the week a match is due (example – team B is supposed to play team G in week 3, but that foursome can’t get together in week 3; so the grace period allows the B/G match to be played in week 4 without penalty; similarly, the B/G match may be played early, such as in week 1 or week 2, providing that the regularly scheduled matches in weeks 1 and 2 are also completed on time).
Each match will consist of 3 games to 15 (win by 1). This isn’t best 2 out of 3 – you will play all 3 games as you are attempting to maximize both games won and points in losing games. At the end of the 8 or 10 weeks, the top two teams (most games won for the season) will play a best 3 out of 5 game championship match for bragging rights. If we have enough teams to split into 2 pools, then the championship will be played by the winner of each pool. Scores will be reported via email to RecPlay.svpball@gmail.com.
I want to emphasize that this is a “self-scheduled” league, meaning that it is up to all players to be flexible enough to get their matches completed per the league schedule. There should be no reason for needing a substitute (given the one week grace period), short of serious injury or illness. Also, self-scheduled league matches have no priority over any other sort of play at any of the pickleball courts, so schedule your matches knowing when courts are normally available.
Sign-up for this league will be via email to RecPlay.svpball@gmail.com and must include the name of the league along with the names and ratings of both players. Sign-ups will close on Sunday, October 9th, and I hope to have the first week’s schedule out the next day. Again, the number of weeks will be determined by the number of teams entered. Hopefully we’ll have at least 8 teams and no more than 16. Use the email address above if you have questions and I’ll try to get back to you as soon as I can.
